Teen Mum Vocational Hub

The Teen Mum Vocational Hub envisions a future where teenage mothers live with dignity, economic independence, and the ability to make informed decisions about their sexual and reproductive health while providing a stable and healthy life for their children.

Mission

Our mission is to empower teenage mothers through a holistic incubation model that combines vocational skills training, basic entrepreneurship education, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights education, and safe childcare support, enabling young mothers to break cycles of poverty and dependency.

Why This Program Exists

In Rwanda, 8 percent of girls aged 15 to 19 are teenage mothers, with the highest impact felt among girls from low income families who have limited education and no access to dignifying work. While some young mothers may receive opportunities for training or employment, many are forced to drop out because they have no safe place to leave their children. The lack of childcare support, combined with poverty, stigma, and limited skills, leaves teenage mothers trapped in cycles of vulnerability that increase the risk of repeat pregnancies. The Teen Mum Vocational Hub was created to respond to what happens after pregnancy by offering a model that removes these barriers and supports both mother and child.

What We Do

We implement a six month vocational incubation program designed specifically for teenage mothers who are out of school, unemployed, and passionate about fashion and home decor. Participants receive hands on training in tailoring and environmentally friendly home decor production, alongside basic business skills that prepare them to start and manage income generating activities. Integrated Sexual and Reproductive Health education is delivered throughout the program to strengthen knowledge, confidence, and decision making. During training hours, babies are cared for in a safe, nurturing on site childcare space, allowing mothers to fully focus on learning and personal growth.

Beyond Training

After completing the program, graduates continue to access SAYE’s production facilities to practice their skills and earn income. Top performing participants receive sewing machines and startup toolkits to launch their own small businesses, while others join cooperative production models and market linkages supported by SAYE. This ensures the program leads to long term economic empowerment rather than short term training.

Our Impact Focus

Through the Teen Mum Vocational Hub, SAYE Company Ltd focuses on restoring dignity among teenage mothers, increasing household income, reducing repeat adolescent pregnancies, and building sustainable livelihoods that support both mothers and their children.
